Arcadia: ISPRA’s new vessel to explore the deep sea and study climate change

An ambitious project marking a turning point in marine research and environmental protection. Arcadia, ISPRA’s new oceanographic vessel, was officially presented and will be built by T. Mariotti S.p.A., designed to reach where few have gone before: the heart of the deep sea.

Arcadia will serve as the operational core of the MER Programme, the largest PNRR investment dedicated to the marine environment (€400 million). Its mission is to explore the deep ocean, study the effects of climate change and map fragile underwater ecosystems—often invisible, yet essential to planetary health.

The project was awarded to T. Mariotti following the tender issued by Invitalia on behalf of ISPRA. A technological and scientific challenge that opens new horizons for Italian oceanographic research.

Marco Ghiglione, CEO of T. Mariotti, stated that building this vessel represents an important milestone for the shipyard. Entering the oceanographic vessel sector allows the company to expand its expertise and consolidate its role in marine research and environmental protection. The underwater domain is considered one of the key industries of the future: this vessel is a prestigious project for the company.
