San Giorgio del Porto delivers Green Heart, the second vessel of the “Green” line
San Giorgio del Porto shipyard has delivered Green Heart, the second unit of the innovative “Green” line, entirely designed and built in Italy. The vessel, christened in June, has joined the fleet of Genova Trasporti Marittimi.
Like the first unit, Green Pearl, Green Heart embodies the highest standards of sustainability and technology, positioning itself at the forefront of the European shipbuilding landscape. It is a highly advanced hybrid vessel, equipped with a sophisticated battery system capable of covering up to 25% of propulsion with zero emissions, as well as dual-fuel engines powered by methanol and biomethanol.
With the delivery of Green Heart, San Giorgio del Porto has further strengthened the standards of “Green & Tech Shipbuilding”, a rapidly expanding global sector that remains relatively underdeveloped in Italy. The shipyard’s strategic investment in this direction confirms its role as one of the most dynamic players in the maritime energy transition.
Genova Trasporti Marittimi continues to operate as a ship-owning vehicle dedicated to high-technology naval projects, supporting operators seeking tailor-made vessels throughout the design and construction phases, before transferring ownership—fully or partially—to transport operators or new-fuel distribution infrastructures.
The hull of Green Heart was built at the GIN Group’s Piombino facility, launched at the end of 2024 and subsequently transferred to Genoa for final outfitting via the semi-submersible barge Arcalupa, symbolising the operational integration between the Group’s production hubs in Genoa, Piombino and Marseille.
Con Green Heart, San Giorgio del Porto ha ribadito la propria visione industriale: unire innovazione, sostenibilità e capacità produttiva, riportando l’Italia al centro del nuovo scenario dello shipping green e tecnologico.
