San Giorgio del Porto Converts a Support Vessel into a Rescue Unit for Emergency

Medmar Tramp Assists the Shipowner

During 2022, Medmar Tramp acted as the maritime agent for Emergency, during the works on Life Support, a research vessel converted by the Genoese shipyard San Giorgio del Porto to serve as a rescue unit for migrants risking their lives crossing the Mediterranean towards Europe. It can accommodate up to 175 people plus 27 crew members on board and began its first mission in November off the coast of Libya.

Built in 2002, the ship was originally designed as a support vessel for Norwegian oil platforms, while more recently it was purchased by Emergency thanks to donations received from private individuals, totaling almost three million euros, which also covered the expenses of the works carried out by the shipyard of the Genova Industrie Navali group, of which Finsea is a partner.
